Love God and Serve Your Neighbor in All That You Do...
Jesus calls us to care for the most vulnerable members of society. In Jesus' day, that was represented by the Widow, the Orphan, and the Stranger. Today, Trinity Chapel continues Jesus' ministry of compassion to a hurting world as we reach out to the poor, the homeless, and the hurting. We have a number of mission opportunities through our congregation.
Backpack Buddies provides food to children in our Chatham County Public School System who are on the free- or reduced-price lunch program. Often these children are dependent on the meals that they get at school for the bulk of their nutrition, and they do not have adequate food at home over the weekends. Through the Backpack Buddies ministry, we assist approximately ninety children at Tybee Island Maritime Academy and May Howard Elementary School by providing them a bag of food to take home each Friday. Our volunteers obtain the food from Second Harvest Food Bank, and we gather every other Wednesday evening to pack. Click here to see our next packing date.
Family Promise is a ministry that helps families transition out of homelessness. Through this ministry, families eat dinner and stay the night in local churches. During they day, they get job training, counseling, and work to save money for first- and last-month's rent on their own apartment. In cooperation with our neighbor Tybee congregations, we host families two to three times each year for a week at the time. Families stay at Trinity Chapel, and volunteers from all the congregations assist with meals, dinner hosting, and overnight hosting.
